Call for Abstracts

Call for Abstracts is now CLOSED.

Abstract Presenter Registration Deadline – June 2, 2008

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the International Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nursing Network (INP/APNN) invite you to participate in the 5th International Conference on Advanced Nursing Practice by submitting an abstract for an oral or poster presentation. The INP/APNN Scientific Program Committee particularly invites abstracts related to identified conference themes but will consider all abstracts of high significance to advanced nursing practice (ANP).

The 5th INP/APNN Conference offers an educational forum for advanced practice nurses, policy makers, researchers, executives and managers from countries around the world.

The conference consists of plenary sessions and concurrent oral and poster presentations. Contributions to the conference should focus on practice, education, research, knowledge transfer, and policy related to one of the three conference themes:

  • Leadership & Collaboration
  • Innovations & Outcomes
  • Maximizing Health through the Global Development of APN Roles

Relevance to advanced practice nursing (primary health care nurse practitioner, acute care nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, nurse anesthetist, nurse midwife or other advanced nursing roles) is required.

Concurrent oral and poster presentations provide an opportunity for sharing clinical, research and other work with interested peers from around the world.

Authors may submit abstracts of completed work or work in progress.

All work submitted for presentation must be original. The onus remains with the primary author to ensure all authors/institutions consent to the material being presented at the conference. Abstracts will be selected through a peer-review process. Authors whose abstracts are accepted for presentation at the conference will be responsible for all costs associated with attending the conference.

Presentation Type
Authors are invited to submit for both oral and poster presentations.

Oral presentations:
Presentations should address one or more of the sub-themes.  Presentation time is 15 minutes with an additional five minutes for questions and discussion.

Poster presentations:
These will be on double-sided display panels, 2.4m wide by 1.2m high, each poster will have a 1.2m by 1.2m space limitation.  Designated times will be determined during the conference for authors to present their posters.

Subjects
The three primary themes for the conference are: 1) Leadership & Collaboration; 2) Innovations & Outcomes; and 3) Maximizing Health Through the Global Development of APN Roles. For abstract review and presentation purposes, sub-themes relevant to one or more of these areas have been identified below. Examples of potential topics for each of these sub-themes are also provided. Please identify one sub-theme that best describes your topic.

  • Innovation and/or collaboration in practice (e.g., APN interventions, models of care delivery, program innovations)
  • Innovation and/or collaboration in education (e.g., APN curricula, continuing education, teaching/learning strategies in APN education)
  • Innovation through research and knowledge transfer (e.g., practice guidelines, evidence-based practice, continuous quality improvement innovations)
  • Leadership in APN role development and implementation (e.g., new and emerging APN roles, practice patterns, role support strategies, role development issues)
  • Leadership and/or collaboration in policy development (e.g., regulatory, credentialing, licensing, funding policies, health policies)
  • Leadership in maximizing health outcomes (e.g., impact of APN roles on patient health outcomes)

The Scientific Program Committee retains the right to add, remove, or change these subjects, and to move abstracts to different themes, as it sees fit.
