As part of the 7th International Symposium on Pediatric Pain, the Integrated Pain Service at BC Children’s Hospital is hosting a free Public Forum called "The Faces of Pain in Childhood".
The purpose of this event is to share ideas with the general public about the ways that pain can affect children while in hospital, as well as in their daily lives, and to present strategies for preventing and managing children’s pain.
This Public Forum will include:
7:00 – 7:30 Pain and its impact on Children and Teens: Guest Speaker
Dr. Neil Schechter (Pain Relief Program Director, Connecticut Children’s Medical Centre)
7:30 – 7:45 Innovative programs developed in B.C. to prevent and manage
children’s pain
Presented by members of the Integrated Pain Service at BC Children’s Hospital
(Dr. Sue Bennett, Dr. Bob Purdy, Ms. Colleen Court, Ms. Maria Juricic)
7:45 – 8:00 Video presentation: “Complex Pain: What to do when pain won’t
go away”
Educational video featuring three teens who have mastered chronic pain
8:00 – 8:30 Question and Answer period (translation available in Punjabi
and Cantonese)
Panel members will include health care professionals and teens affected by pain
Guest appearance by "Doc
Willikers" - Theraputic Clown
8:30 – 9:00 Meet the Experts over coffee
