WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE HOST
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As President of the Special Interest Group on Pain in Childhood of the
International Association for the Study of Pain, it is my privilege to welcome you
all to the 7th triennial scientific meeting. The program looks wonderful, and, as in
the past, we will have a focus on collegiality, rigorous scientific investigation,
challenging clinical problems, and friendly interactions with delegates from many
countries and many disciplines.
This is the IASP Global Year Against Pain in Childhood. In the past, the ISPP has
been strongly supported by participants from Europe, North America, and
Australia, and we are eager to welcome more colleagues from Asia, South America
and Africa. For this meeting, in particular, I would be thrilled to have even more
participation from those countries facing the challenges of developing economies
and restricted resources. It is time that the SIG reached out to provide more
support to our colleagues who are working hard to prevent or relieve children's
pain under difficult conditions. Vancouver can be reached relatively directly from
anywhere on the Pacific Rim, and connections from south Asia are also fairly
straightforward. Partial travel funding support is available in some circumstances,
so I am looking forward to meeting old friends and new in Vancouver in June.
Best regards, and I hope to see you soon.

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE SYMPOSIUM CO-CHAIRS
Dear Colleagues:
On behalf of the Scientific Program and Symposium Organizing Committees, we take great pleasure in extending an invitation to attend and participate in the 7th International Symposium on Pediatric Pain to be held in Vancouver, Canada, June 25th-29th, 2006.
The theme of the 2006 Symposium is 'Pain in Child Health.' Pain concerns all children. It afflicts not only those typically recognized as suffering from acute or chronic pain, but also is a serious problem for children suffering from diseases in which pain remains relatively ignored as an undesirable side effect. As well, the development of healthy children in family, school and social settings can be adversely affected by pain. The program will address the current status and recent scientific advances in understanding and controlling all children's pain.
The Scientific Program Committee has developed a program that will address pain from the perspectives of basic, clinical, behavioural and social sciences and health service delivery. There will be many opportunities to learn about cutting edge scientific advances and best practices during plenary addresses, workshops and paper sessions.
We expect the upcoming 7th International Symposium on
Pediatric Pain will attract more than 700 registrants,
including trainees, seasoned professionals, scientists,
administrators and experts in policy development, all of whom are committed to preventing,
controlling and eliminating pain in infants, children and adolescents. We are planning to host
registrants from multiple professions and disciplines, including physicians, nurses,
psychologists, physiotherapists and other health professionals and a range of basic and
applied sciences. We are eager to have an international audience representing the global
community seeking to better understand and control children’s pain.
Your Symposium Organizing Committee is delighted to be able to offer excellent conference facilities at The Fairmont Vancouver Hotel. We are confident that presenters and attendees will find the setting most conducive to meeting their educational objectives. As well, Vancouver offers a marvellous setting for ISPP 2006 as it is consistently ranked as one of the most breathtaking cities in the world and June is a beautiful time to visit Vancouver. Our city is full of friendly people, an abundance of recreational activities, international cultural influences, fine dining and eco-tourism. Greater Vancouver is surrounded by some of the most stunning natural scenery in the world - mountains, the Pacific Ocean, ancient rainforests, rich farmland, beaches and islands of all sizes.
Please join us - we look forward to hosting you in Vancouver, Canada!
Yours Sincerely,
