Chairs Message

On behalf of the conference organizing committee, we would like to extend an invitation to you to join us for the 12th International Conference on Modeling Casting, Welding and Advanced Solidification Processes, to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia June 7th - 14th, 2009. The field of solidification and in particular the modeling of phenomena and/or processes involving solidification continues to grow and develop in sophistication at a remarkable pace. Over the years, this conference has served as the preeminent meeting in the field of solidification modeling and a review of the previous conference proceedings allows one to chart the evolution in this field from simple 2-D thermal modeling to state-of-the-art, multi-physics problems applied over a wide range of length scales.  If past tradition holds, the conference promises to bring together leading academics, researchers and engineers from industry, and commercial software developers in an environment and format conducive to the sharing of ideas.

The conference will take place on a 4-star cruise ship (Celebrity Mercury) departing from Vancouver as it travels up the West Coast of British Columbia, Canada, through US waters to Alaska, before returning to Vancouver. The cruise is 1 week in duration departing Sunday evening and returning to Vancouver on the following Sunday morning. This cruise will take you through some of the most spectacular and unspoiled scenery in the World including the Straight of Georgia (BC), the Inside Passage (BC) and the Hubbard Glacier (Alaska). In addition to Vancouver, there are three ports of call including Ketchikan (Alaska), Juneau (Alaska) and Sitka (Alaska) where you may disembark and enjoy some sightseeing. The conference program will be organized so that you may take advantage of the major cruise attractions including the ports of call. As in the past the conference will follow a single session format, with various theme areas grouped into a series of morning and evening sessions. There will also be an opportunity to present posters in an informal reception format. For those of you planning on bringing a companion there will be an outstanding companion program with lots to do and see.

The cost of the conference includes accommodation, all meals, a welcome reception, a conference banquet, and access to technical sessions. We believe the conference venue offers an outstanding intellectual and social/cultural experience at an outstanding value when compared with other major conferences. We anticipate good attendance from Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. Registration will be limited to approximately 200 delegates so be sure to register early. We look forward to you joining us in this unique opportunity to share ideas with good friends and colleagues, meet new friends and future colleagues and experience spectacular British Columbia and Alaska from the comfort of a state-of-the-art cruise ship.
