Thank You Message
WAAVP 2009 has gone and there have been a few months to reflect and ponder. Many images come to mind: Bailey the Buffalo, the skirling pipes of the Calgary City Police Pipers, the ice cream parlour and the dance band at Heritage Village, the capture of a notorious horse thief at the Gala Banquet, numerous great plenary talks, scientific sessions and posters. There have been a good number of positive comments and I am left with the impression that the conference was a success from both the science and the social perspective. In addition, many people took advantage of the trip to Calgary to plan expeditions into the Rocky Mountains for sightseeing, bird watching and fishing. All reports suggest these adventures were very enjoyable.
The success of WAAVP 2009 was the result of a large number of people who worked diligently and contributed in innumerable ways. Once again, the corporate sponsors were integral to the conference and I would like to express our sincere thanks for their contributions. Not only do they contribute to the science they also support the many social aspects of the WAAVP conference.
This year we were also fortunate to have support from the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for the opening symposium which was a great kick-off to the conference.
The Local Organizing Committee members worked on this conference for almost four years and they were absolutely outstanding, contributing enthusiasm, great ideas and no small amount of time. They were great to work with and I extend a very large Thank You to everyone.
The main focus of the WAAVP conference is the sharing of science and it takes a great deal of time and energy to put together plenary presentations, symposia and the other scientific sessions. Thank you to the Scientific Program Committee who worked diligently to put together a stimulating and provocative science program.
An event like the WAAVP conference always depends on the hard work that takes place in the background. The staff of International Conference Services did a superb job and are more than deserving of our thanks. The same thanks is extended to the staff at the Telus Convention Centre and at the hotels who housed us and provided much good food. A final thank you goes to the volunteers from Calgary, Lethbridge and Saskatoon who helped at the Registration desk.
See you in Argentina.
