Preparing Your Abstract
The 29th World Veterinary Congress Scientific Committee is inviting the submission of scientific abstracts. Abstracts must be in English and contain a maximum of 250 words. A data table may be included where required; each table will count as 75 words against the 250 word total. A maximum of 2 image files may also be included; each image will count as 75 words against the 250 word total.
The theme of the Conference is “CELEBRATE OUR DIVERSITY”. Authors are asked to submit abstracts under one of the following 3 streams, selecting the appropriate subject within each stream:
Stream One
Disease surveillance, biosecurity and emergency preparedness
- Emerging diseases, e.g. avian influenza, west nile virus, BSE, etc.
- Surveillance standards and procedures required to protect international trade
- Establishment of adequate and achievable biosecurity systems
- Emergency preparedness considerations for natural disaster(s) and foreign animal disease(s)
- Other related topic(s)
Stream Two
Production animal welfare and animal care
- Animal transportation
- Humane slaughter
- Mass destruction of animals for disease control
- Establishment of codes of practice for responsible animal care
- Topics related to the humane handling of livestock throughout the food chain
- Humane handling of livestock in animal production systems
- Self regulation of farm animal welfare by industry
- Other related topic(s)
Stream Three
Judicious use of animal health products
- International harmonization of new drug approval processes
- Antimicrobial resistance
- Antimicrobial use issues in companion animals
- Emerging therapeutic products
- Risks or benefits to agricultural practices that may result from restrictions being placed on antimicrobial use
- Other related topic(s)
Abstracts should be submitted on-line if possible. Those unable to submit on-line can mail a CD-Rom plus hard copy to the Congress Secretariat (address below). You may prepare your abstract in the word processing or text editing software of your choice; however do not use presentation software such as PowerPoint.
When ready to submit, go to the online submission form. Please ensure that you can provide an email address and fax number for the submitting author, and the presenting author.

Review of Abstracts
All abstracts accepted by the Scientific Committee will be published by the 29th World Veterinary Congress, in digital format, and submission of an abstract implies consent by the authors to have the abstract published by the Congress.
The Scientific Committee will review all submitted abstracts, and will determine if an abstract is to be presented orally, or by poster. Abstracts failing to meet minimum standards or are not relevant to this congress will be declined.
The Scientific Committee reserves the right to move abstracts between subjects or to add or remove subjects as it deems necessary.
The review results are expected to be sent by email to the submitting author in January 2008.
Author Registration
Presenting Authors of Accepted Abstracts are required to register for the Congress. Please take advantage of the early registration fee by submitting your registration by 04 April 2008. Congress Registration is available, please click here.
Poster Guidelines
The maximum allowable poster size is 4 feet (height) x 8 feet (width) (1.2m by 2.4m). Please use Velcro or tacks to attach your presentation to the poster board rather than using tape. You must provide your own Velcro tape; push pins will be provided on-site.
